How can we rethink

Special Disability Accommodation?

Through our recent research into elderly and disability accommodation, these functions are often found to be isolated and create a feeling of detachment from society. Through a rich housing mix that provides for both SDA approved housing and starter homes, the activated site facilities knit these together to create a healthy living concept that promotes community over sterility.

Located within an ecclectic context of urban forms we were asked to develop a mixed use residential concept for the site of an existing bowling club in Newnham, Tasmania.

Long landscaped lanes create diverse streetscapes and pockets of private and shared community space. Reminiscent of the lines of the bowls that once took place here and the abstract forms of the timber factory buildings located nearby.

Vibrant community and improved livability sit at the core of the project, the pedestrianised site scattered with diverse activated and shared spaces for residents.
